Hockey - What Are the Positions?

In the game of ice hockey there are four basic positions: center, winger, defenseman, and goalie. There is generally one center, two wingers, two defenseman, and one goalie on the ice for each team at any given time. Each position is meant to be played by an individual with a certain set of skills. With a great deal of practice players can develop skills to better specialize to play only one specific position.

The center is considered the main puck distributor on the team. It is the role of the center to take face-offs and control the middle of the ice. During play, the center's job is very similar to a point guard in basketball or a setter in volleyball. He or she has the responsibility of gaining control of the puck and passing it to the wingers, who are ideally the team's primary goal scorers. The team's best passers are usually centers.

Wingers are primarily responsible for putting the puck into the net. They are generally the smallest and fastest players on the team. Ideally, wingers should be able to take passes from the center or defensemen and carry the puck to the opposing net. When their team does not have the puck it is the wingers' job to stay at the blue-line and cover the opposing team's defensemen. The wingers should be the first skaters to start an offensive rush.

Wingers generally prefer to play either the left or right side of the ice. While it is not necessary that wingers keep to their designated side, having a designated "left wing" and "right wing" will lead to more organized play on the ice. Most wingers tend to play on only one side of the ice based on personal preference.

Defenseman also play on either the left or right side of the ice. It is their job to be the last wave of players to defend against oncoming rushes. The primary job of a defenseman is to prevent the opposing team from scoring by protecting their own net. Defensemen are generally the biggest and strongest players on the team, and are adept at skating backwards. Defensemen generally do not score as much as wingers and centers, but do contribute by tallying assists.

Finally, the goalie must obviously defend the net. When all else fails, the goalie is the last line of defense. The goalie in hockey is often considered to be the most important position in all of sports, along with the quarterback in American football. A good goalie can make even a bad team competitive.

If you are considering trying your hand (or skates) at the game of hockey consider your strengths and weaknesses. Are you a fast skater with a good shot? Are you an accurate passer? Are you big and strong with a physical edge? If you can identify with one of these descriptions then maybe your ideal position is easier to determine than you think.

Showing Your Appreciation With Challenge Coins

Finding a gift or a token to show people you appreciate them can be a daunting task. Most often, personalized gifts are prohibitively expensive and affordable gifts are impersonal and often have nothing to do with the occasion one is celebrating. Face it, most gifts are tossed aside within a few weeks or months after the occasion. Why not make an attempt to get something that people will remember for years, if not the rest of their lives.

What kind of gift could be both reasonably affordable, personalized, and memorable? Well, that gift would be a challenge coin. Challenge coins typically aren't very useful gifts for things like Christmas and a person's birthday, but a challenge coin fills a niche that not many personalized gifts fill. These coins can be issues to people for going above and beyond the call of duty or simply for being valuable friends / employees / comrades.

Where do they come from? The tradition of the challenge coin started in the US Military. The legend is that a wealthy WWI officer had challenge coins made for all of the pilots in his unit, and one of the pilots ended up getting shot down over Germany, but escaped to France. The legend says that once in France, the person was assumed to be a German that crossed the border, and the French were getting ready to execute him. The execution was halted, however, when the challenge coin was discovered on his person and he was returned to the US. As such, all of the members of that squadron kept their coins and thus the tradition of the challenge coin was born.

This style of coin makes great gifts in that they are heavily customizable and they represent something significant, they're not just another gift to be given to a person and forgotten about in a week or so. These coins come in many different shapes and sizes, and they have many different options. A person can customize the material the coin is made out of, if the coin is painted, the logo or graphic stamped on the coin, and a variety of other options. The coins can be solid or they can even have cutouts and complicated designs. The sky is the limit when it comes to coin design. The coins that were once a military honor are now available to everyone who earns the right to carry one.

Mortgage Rates Hit Lowest Levels in Almost Forty Years

Just when the deals couldn't seem to be any sweeter for homebuyers, the news came out of Washington that mortgage rates have now hit their lowest levels since 1971. The 30-year rate has dropped to 4.44% for the government backed group Freddie Mac. The 15-year rate slipped down to a staggering 3.92%. With numbers this low, it would confound just about anyone looking to sell homes why anyone would pass it up, or wait.

Playing the waiting game for one reason or another

People are playing the waiting game for one reason or another. For some, they are waiting for another government run incentive program to kick in, such as the new homebuyer tax credit. They believe that waiting for that eight-thousand dollar bonus is worth it. Others are reluctant to kick their name into the hat because perhaps their credit is in the tank or they don't have the equity, or they don't enough money for a down payment or are unsure about how the market will rebound or if it ever will.

These are all legitimate reasons and concerns for different people to have. And while it may be easy for those of us in the industry, with a stake in every sale of a home, we need to step back and remember just what causes different people to become nervous. Buying a home is still the most important investment in a person's -or family's- life and as such, there is a long-term commitment and a great deal of stress when thinking about the long-term health of the economy.

There are millions of people currently out of work. Most of these people want to work but have been unable to land any meaningful employment. Taking that into account, there are many families who once subsisted on two incomes but are now squeaking by on just one. Perhaps before the economic meltdown these families were looking at the possibility, and plausibility, of being able to buy a home but these days are in the past.

Still others are clinging to a fear, whether rational or not, that their credit score will be too damaged from some economic disaster to even be considered for a mortgage. People don't want to waste their time, or anyone else's time for that matter, holding out hope that some lender somewhere will take into account their hardship and feel some sense of sympathy for them. They know too well that it's never personal, it's always about good business investment and banks and lenders are being more stingy with their funds these days than they have been in more than three decades.

What about the incentive-seekers?

Of course, this leads of to those potential homebuyers who are looking for the incentives to buy. They are usually products of the sale generation of the nineteen-nineties and the first part of this decade where, if they aren't offered some cash back deal or special rebate, there is no reason to jump at the offer.

These are the people whom it is incumbent upon those of us in the industry to appeal to. With mortgage rates so low right now, the money that will be saved on an average home over thirty years will far outweigh any government incentive. In other words, those people waiting for the immediate handout should be directed to calculate the savings of getting a mortgage at 4.4% now as opposed to waiting for the uncertain offer of cash back from the government and signing at 5.4%, for example.

There are a number of buyers out there waiting this time around. These are the same people who were ready to buy in April but missed the deadline. If there has ever been an incentive to buy, 4.44% for a thirty year mortgage should be that incentive.

Home Remedies For Colon Cleansing

An unhealthy colon leads to constipation, abdominal pain, gas and bloating. It can also cause many additional problems you may not be aware of, including headaches, stomach upset, more severe allergic reactions to foods, and a lack of energy.

However, even if you are not experiencing many symptoms, you can still improve your overall health and benefit from cleansing your system, as there is a buildup of toxins within the colon over time. Often a buildup of sludgy type material becomes a breeding ground for toxins such as bacteria, yeast and even parasites and carcinogens.

Toxins can also seep out of the colon into the body and bloodstream. There are home remedies for colon cleansing that claim to rid the body of impurities. However, before using them you should be aware of their dangerous side effects and the fact that they have not been proven to be effective at detoxifying the colon.

You should be eliminating approximately two to three times a day without constipation, pain or straining. You'll want to add a lot of fiber into your diet by eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables each day. Fiber will enhance digestive function and help keep the stools soft for easier and faster elimination.

Also be sure to drink the recommended eight ounces of water a day to keep your body and digestive system as hydrated as possible. Avoid processed, fatty, greasy and high sugar foods, which all slow the colon down and add to unhealthy toxic affects. A well-balanced diet is important for colon health, though this alone will not prevent or remove the toxic buildup that occurs within the colon over time.

Detoxification of your colon removes buildup of bacteria, carcinogens and other toxins within the digestive system and in turn prevents them from leaking into the rest of your body and bloodstream. Detoxification will help you reach and maintain optimal colon health and improve your health overall. There are different home remedies and over-the-counter methods available, though many will not offer the complete cleansing effect you desire and are dangerous and unproven.

Enemas are not only invasive but also dangerous as they cause kidney damage, especially with continued use. They can even cause complete kidney failure. Laxatives will quickly clear the colon of feces but do so with harsh chemicals and do not cleanse the system of toxic buildup.

They also remove large amounts of water and essential minerals and contribute to dehydration and further constipation and bowel problems. Both laxatives and enemas can cause electrolyte imbalance and further colon problems including irritable bowel, bowel tremors and poor bowel muscle tone and control.

There are plenty of herbal remedies on the market using safe ingredients already tested and mixed specifically for the purpose of detoxifying the digestive system. These have been proven to be a safe and effective way to cleanse the colon and eliminate toxin buildup for your optimal colon health.

Other available home remedies for colon cleansing have dangerous side effects and are also ineffective in producing the desired results. Colon cleansing can eliminate your pain and constipation while reducing your food allergy symptoms. It will also give you more energy, healthier skin and boost your immune system by ridding the body of dangerous carcinogens, free radicals and other toxins that can lead to cancers and disease.

Online Media - Boon Or Bane

Being in contact with people is no more restricted to meeting them in person or for that matter, it is definitely not about using the snail mail and email. People do not have the time to even drop an email today owing to their hectic work schedules which barely leaves them with anytime. It has been quite some time since online community sites have come into existence. And they have picked up with great pace as well. Orkut, Facebook, Hi5, Minglebox to name a few.

It obviously has the advantage of getting people to be in touch with colleagues, long-lost friends and other people we would not have been in touch regularly otherwise. But at the same time, one cannot forego the intoxication of impurities that has affected the youth today. Say for example, adding unknown people to your friend list - that has a lot of side effects.

People are attracted to what is not the real person. The profile picture does not really belong to the same person. More often than not, it is just a representation of what they are or should I more appropriately say, desire to be. Avatars as they are better known are cool replications of borrowed identities. Maybe the real person isn't too good-looking, but to have images that attract another so as to make friends is not exactly what I would have like, but then again, maybe they have something to hide. Well, whatever may be the case, people should definitely be themselves rather than pretending to be someone they are not!

Know the Ways to Protect Your Business' Intellectual Property

Fresh ideas are always vital for every business or corporation. It is not easy to conceive new ideas and not all fresh ideas are viable for a business venture. Some new ideas may never take root and grow since they can be dismissed, postponed or neglected.

Unfortunately, there might be times when your idea may have some similarities with other corporation's new ideas and it is too late to market them before the other company does.

While thinking of new ideas may be relatively easy, inventions are not as much. Refining an idea and creating it as a workable invention entails effort, money, time and knowledge. Moreover, extra effort and some luck are needed into turning the invention as an innovation to be introduced to the marketplace and consumers.

It would be quite unfortunate for a company to spend a lot and realizing that some other company have already produced and introduced a new product or service same as they are working on.

Every single idea, invention and innovations produced by an individual or a company are considered as an Intellectual property.

It is important to protect every single new concept, invention and innovations or intellectual property of a company. The U.S. patents, trademarks and laws on copyright are several of the statutes that protect a corporation or individual's intellectual property rights.

If you have a great and innovative idea that could be the ticket for your ingénue to be recognized and the road to a thriving corporate venture, then you must know how to protect it.

There are federal intellectual property laws, which are particularized in every state that can assist you in protecting you and your company's ideas. However, even before the time you process your ideas and inventions to become protected under these laws, you must know how to make sure that they stay as your own property.

1. It is necessary to file for security of your innovations under the copyright, trademark and patent laws of the U.S. These three categories protect a certain aspect of your invention or ideas. All three are the aspects of Intellectual property.

2. In order to make the proper distinction between the three categories, a legal counsel can help very well. It would be worth the venture to hire the services of an expert intellectual property attorney.

3. Keep yourself armed with knowledge about the laws governing the intellectual property rights. Discover how adequately your ideas could be protected under these laws. 4. When you have your idea protected, know that it does not mean it is a success already. Be realistic enough to know that you are protecting your idea should it turn out as successful.

5. Make sure that the idea, product or services you are having protected is not imitated or borrowed from another person or company.

6. Take ample time to develop your idea fully before presenting it for trade marking or patenting. The odds of attracting more patrons or catching the interest of lending institutions may lean on your side if you have a well-researched idea or invention.

7. Always be open for competition. Spend considerably to protect your idea and get the opportunity to participate in seminars where you can widen your knowledge about building marketing strategies and ideas for business building.

8. When building influence for your ideas or invention to prospective investors, partners or lending institutions, make sure that you use non-disclosure agreements for every person you approached and disclosed your business idea.

9. Have faith on the legal protection guaranteed by the intellectual property rights.

10. It takes time to have a patent licensed or a trademark and copyright to be established. While you are waiting for adequate protection of your idea, continue on improving it.

Healthy Eating For Kids - 5 Highly Effective Tips on How to Teach Your Kids to Eat

Most parents have the dilemma on how they will achieve a healthy eating for their kids. Children have very wide preferences, when it comes to foods. Unfortunately, their choices are not always considered as healthy and nutritious. Kids of different ages mostly preferred junk foods as their snacks; while choosing to eat almost the same roster of foods, for say, a week. They are not absolutely getting all the nutrients they need.

So, here are the usual tips to get your kids into healthy eating:

1. You have to understand the ever-changing moods of your child. There are times when he would not want to eat, even if it is already meal time. Try to get involved with his activity at the particular moment, and gradually observe his hunger in the duration of the said playtime. This is only the time you can prepare food for him. Never force your child to eat. It will just aggravate the simple problem because the kid will think that you are not respecting and understanding his side.

2. Manage to stay calm, even if your child is becoming disobedient already.

3. Prepare juice and snacks at least an hour prior to each and every meal. This will motivate the kid even further to enjoy his meal.

4. Be sure to understand your child's reduced appetite. Most children just need few bites in their foods to fill their hunger.

5. Finally, start preparing small portions of food to your child; and allow him to choose the food he wants.
